Carlos Páez Vilaró (November 1, 1923 – February 24, 2014) was undoubtedly one of Uruguay's most representative artists. He used various techniques such as oil and acrylic on canvas or wood, collage, ceramics, sculpture, mosaic, and mural painting. In his work, he gave each color a particular meaning, with blue-gray representing prestige, violet representing aristocracy, ochre representing poverty, red representing stridency, blue representing nostalgia, and yellow representing a scream. He avoided lines and right angles, seeking to integrate his work into nature.
